Duties: 

  • Activities included researching and developing design specifications, complete design, liaison with engineering and installation crews of passenger to freighter and other modifications.
  • Undertake mechanical design, structural load testing and reports, installation instructions and maintenance requirements and procedures. Modifications include individual conversion of passenger
  • Aircraft to Freighter configuration including cargo doors, load bearing structures, cargo handling system, smoke detection system, hydraulic system, etc.
  • Perform routine tasks, such as checking calculations and entering inputs from data gathered from the aircraft.
  • Reviews, updates, and compiles engineering definition of structural components and assemblies based on analysis and in some cases prototype build project.
  • Assists in creating engineering BOM based on prototype design and build configuration.
  • Follows established engineering definition review, approval, and release process, making recommendations for process improvements whenever this is possible.
  • Supports review of manufacturing plans and procedures to ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Supports the creation of structural test plans which will be used to verify manufacturing processes meet design intent and requirements.
  • Coordinate work and liaise with external fabricators and service providers.
  • Focus on enhancing high-quality flight safety and standards.
  • Oversee the assembly of airframes, instruments and other equipment where necessary.
  • Resolve issues that arise during design, development, testing and operation. This includes resolving engineering issues that arise during execution of passenger to freighter modifications or other type modifications.
  • Develop repair and maintenance procedures including training manuals.
  • Investigate performance related incidents and elaborate findings report with resolution recommendations.
  • Support the Engineering and Operations departments as needed, including but not limited to interacting with customers concerning specification of requirements and modifications ensuring the highest quality service.
  • Ensure that all drawings, manuals, training materials, correspondence etc. are properly identified and filed to allow for easy and rapid access by all who need to know.
  • Provide frequent accurate and candid reporting to the Director Engineering.
  • Deal with colleagues, customers and vendors in a cordial, respectful and professional manner.

Related Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher degree from accredited university in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years experience performing liaison/MRB work on aircraft structures.
  • Aircraft structures, sub-system integration design.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding across many aerospace engineering disciplines is desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Extensive working Knowledge in ACAD, CATIA v5 or Unigraphics is highly desired.
  • MS Project, MS PowerPoint required.
