You will resolve complex engineering problems associated with aircraft secondary structure changes and be a Subject Matter Expert for the aircraft interiors design team for multiple customers and projects worldwide. You will perform structural/stress analysis guiding production design, verifying structural integrity through use of analytical methods and finite element models while helping to document and certify test results to ensure that customer and regulatory agency requirements are satisfied. Interface with other members of project engineering, program/product teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions.
Responsibilities to include; Coordination with Regulatory Authorities for any necessary assistance and/or approvals, structural evaluation of components, advise CDG design team on structural compliance requirements for Interior components and secondary structure modification. Travel to customer locations as well as CDG design canter’s worldwide required, sometimes on short notice. Position located in Long Beach, CA. No relocation assistance will be offered.
KEY AREA OF RESPONSIBILITIES: • Work within the Aircraft design modification team(s), to assist with the generation of Design documentation and drawings, and interface with customer on required changes including, seat track changes, installation of new hardpoints and upper attachments to the aircraft structure. • Prepare, develop and review Structural changes for interior products/secondary structures to support design. • Prepare, review and approve certification/structural documentation and drawings to submit for customer and regulatory approval. • Mentor, support and lead global team(s) in multiple time zones. • Lead and/or support customer design reviews and presentations. • Coordinate and monitor interior aspects of project schedule with team members and the customer. • Review and approve drawing and designs. • Act on behalf of CDG as a Structural Design expert with Airworthiness authorities. • Lead development, integration, and documentation of structural requirements to establish the system design using advanced methods. • Guide product design and verifies structural integrity by using and developing analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools throughout the product lifecycle to develop structural environment, characteristics, and performance. • Knowledge of aircraft structure, materials, strengths and properties, design criteria, loading conditions and processes (e.g. non-destructive testing, corrosion prevention, fatigue).
QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in engineering classification. Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical engineering degree preferred. Preferred Accreditation: American Board of Engineering & Technology (ABET)
Bachelor’s and 10-17 years’ experience. Product engineering encompassing components of the entire life cycle – concept to delivery. Engineering within Boeing Commercial Aircraft Group a plus.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: • Knowledge of aircraft secondary structure changes to accommodate new seating, interior components e.g carpets, curtains, galleys, Lavs, partitions, monuments, floor and ceiling structures, etc. • Experience in related commercial/military aircraft design fields. • Possess project/analytical management skills and ability to multi-task. • The candidate should already understand structural compliance methods for the substantiation of interior products. • Ability to be self-motivated and meet deadlines with little supervision. • Proficiency in 3D modeling skills. • Ability to identify potential issues, analyze and recommend improvements and alternate solutions. • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. • Good verbal and written communication skills.
