The SMS Auditor assists in the implementation, validation and on-going administration of the Frontier Safety Management System (SMS).   The SMS Auditor will coordinate efforts and audit departments across Frontier to ensure SMS procedures are being performed in compliance with Frontier’s SMS program and applicable federal regulations.  In addition, the auditor will be responsible for oversight of the two auditing arms of Frontier:  Maintenance Quality Assurance and Internal Evaluation Program (Airport Ops).

  • Support the development, implementation and validation of Frontier’s SMS (implementation phase only)
  • Audit Frontier departments’ efforts to perform SMS within their departments (50%)
    • Evaluate safety procedures and policies as required to ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards
  • Provide direction for Frontier departments in developing and maintaining Frontier’s SMS (15%)
    • Prepare and conduct safety training sessions
  • Provide oversight of Frontier’s auditing departments in the ongoing administration of Frontier’s SMS (10%)
  • Assist SMS Program Mgr in the continual development and improvement of Frontier’s SMS (10%)
  • Perform as assistant FAA liaison for SMS compliance (5%)
  • Develop and maintain Safety Department auditing process and records (5%)
  • Coordinate execution of external audits of the company (5%)
  • Will act as lead of the SMS Program in the absence of the SMS Program Mgr

     

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Safety, Aviation Management Occupational Safety or closely related field preferred
  • Five (5) years’ work experience at a Part 121 air carrier, three (3) of which should be in an auditing function
  • Working knowledge of SMS gained through experience and/or training is required
  • Operational experience in safety, flight operations or aviation maintenance roles beneficial

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Safety Management System requirements, including federal regulations specific to 14 CFR Part 5
  • Ability to develop and perform audits and evaluations
  • Ability to perform statistical analyses
  • General knowledge of 14 CFR 121 regulations and safety programs for air carriers
  • Excellent writing skills, including manual writing, report writing and correspondence with government agencies
  • Ability to make formal presentations, including advocacy of cultural change to large and small groups including management
  • Ability to instruct in a classroom setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including database and spreadsheet programs
