I. JOB PURPOSE

To manage functions assigned in the inspection, testing, adjusting, assembly, disassembly, repair, cleaning, and calibration of aircraft avionics equipment.

II. WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires occasional bending, stooping or squating. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Equipment Operated: Electrical testing devises such as volt-ohm-amp meters, special system testing equipment such as DMC, VOR/ILS, pilot-static testers.

Work Location: Aircraft maintenance hangar, flightline, and Avionics shop.

Potential Hazards: Exposure to high intensity noise levels, changes in temperature, electrical charges and radar waves, materials identified on Material Safety Data Sheets, working around moving machinery.

Protective Equipment Required: Ear protection, safety harnesses, safety glasses, and breathing equipment.

III. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage the disassembly, repair, cleaning, adjustment, assembly, testing and calibration of aircraft components, parts and accessories.
  • Ensures that all work performed complies with applicable technical data, FAA regulations and Marana Aerospace policies and procedures and that the technical data and procedure manuals are reviewed, kept current and available.
  • Oversees production schedules and estimates worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignments. Adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Ensures that all aircraft parts/components removed from an aircraft in work, that are to be routed to Technical Services, are documented by a valid job number and that the work scope is properly identified.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Ensures that customer approval is obtained on original and revised estimates to accomplish maintenance on aircraft and components.
  • Ensures that all required paperwork is satisfactorily completed, signed and in compliance with existing regulations and procedures.
  • Ensures that employees receive proper orientation and training and performs on-the-job training as necessary. Ensures that training is documented in employee training records.
  • Interprets company policies to workers, enforces safety regulations and the proper use of equipment and ensures that quality standards are met.
  • Manages and coordinates activities of workers including assigning work duties for maximum utilization of manpower and analyzing and resolving work problems.
  • Maintains communications within area of responsibility, informing employees as to plans and progress and promoting teamwork and cooperation.
  • Conducts performance evaluations on employees and makes recommendations to management regarding personnel actions such as hires, promotions, transfers, discharges and disciplinary measures.
  • Assures proper use of all shop equipment, full compliance and understanding of all safety rules and regulation.
  • Informs the shift supervisor or lead of all problems especially if additional equipment and personnel are needed to perform respective functions.
  • Monitors the work of personnel under his responsibility for proper work performance, productivity and to insure quality work.
  • Establish and maintain shop areas for incoming and outgoing serviceable components
  • Ensures that personnel under his supervision will review pertinent non-preplanned documents to identify the refurbishment, paint, and/or replacement requirements in a timely manner. Necessary parts, materials and tools are to be identified once the method is established.
  • Assures that customer approval is obtained on original and revised estimates to accomplish maintenance on customers aircraft and components.
  • Ensures that all work performed is properly documented.

Marginal Job Functions:

  • Tracks time spent on each work order and ensures the time is logged on time card correctly.
  • Ensures that proper documentation is made on training record for training received, and signed by Lead, Supervisor, or Manager

Marginal Job Functions:

  • Communicates on the telephone.
  • In the absence of a Production Controller, assures that a supervisor monitors and controls the work documents within assigned responsibility area according to policy.
  • Coordinates with customers to obtain data or information relating to a project in work.
  • Makes recommendations to management to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, or cut costs.
  • Performs maintenance duties away from base on temporary duty.
  • Attends meetings as required.

IV. JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to organize and plan work adhering to deadlines; attention to detail and mathematical skills; excellent communication skills including ability to read, write, and understand the English language and to follow and administer verbal and written instruction; ability to prioritize and supervise multiple work projects; ability to interpret and apply technical data relating to specific systems; ability to safely drive and operate a standard shift automotive vehicle and other applicable equipment; ability to adjust to rapidly changing circumstances and priorities; ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations; basic knowledge of human behavior and supervisory techniques.

Education/Training: High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate Degree in Aviation Management or related discipline or equivalent combination of education, training or experience preferred.

Experience: Five to ten years experience in related aircraft avionics and electrical related areas preferred.

Certificates/Licenses: A&P License and Instrument Repairmans Certificate required. FCC License preferred. Valid drivers license required.
