Responsibilities:

Regional Planning & Performance is responsible for developing long-term market specific business cases. RP&P members lead cross-functional Teams within the Commercial Department for the purpose of creating and supporting market-leading positions at the airports we serve.

 

The Strategic Performance Team is responsible for measuring and communicating performance at the market, city and route level. In addition, the Team looks for trends within the data to make projections about future competitive actions and their possible effects on Southwest Airlines.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Intern would be reviewing the financial performance of each region and reporting the top and bottom performing routes. In addition, the Intern would be conducting deep dives on competitors to report their performance in overlap markets as well as share insights into their competitive strategy. The primary computer programs used in this role are Excel, Diio, and Tableau.

  • Develop knowledge of general industry and competitive issues as it relates to Regional Planning.
  • Conduct analysis and report on specific operational, traffic, and competitive issues.
  • Learn department tools and project development processes.
  • Develop a process to accurately track performance within the Commercial Organization.
  • Manage a small project from start to finish, working closely with RP&P Leadership.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

 

Must be at least 18 years of age.

 

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

 

EDUCATION:

 

Major/Minor in an Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Operations Research, orBusiness related undergraduate degree program.

 

Minimum junior level.

 

To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full time student (minimum 12 credit hours).

 

Maintained 2.75 or above cumulative GPA.

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:

 

Interest or experience in the Aviation industry is a plus.

 

Analytical and organizational skills.

 

Ability to use Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required.

 

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

 

Ability to use Access is preferred.

 

Ability to create basic analyses and graphics using Excel required (i.e. Pivot Tables).

 

Ability to use Word and PowerPoint to write memos and build presentations.

 

Participation in Academic Associations and extracurricular activities is preferred.

 

Ability to manage time and multiple tasks effectively.

 

Looking for an individual who is highly motivated.

 

Able to work with minimum guidance and professional in their conduct.
