Position is responsible for fabricating, modifying, installing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining ground, airborne and electronic equipment, ground control stations and ground support equipment in accordance with established technical specifications, engineering instructions and technical orders and procedures. Performs work involved in routine disassembly, repair, assembly, testing and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and accessories. Experience on U-2/ER-2 aircraft highly desired.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• The qualified applicant must be experienced and knowledgeable of U-2/TR-2/ER-2 aircraft systems and maintenance practices.

• Constructs individual components of electronic equipment following detailed schematics, layout diagrams, and work instructions.

• Corrects minor discrepancies by removal, repair, or replacement of defective or deleted parts of aircraft electrical systems.

• Performs limited functional checks on existing and newly installed aircraft electrical systems and equipment.

• Operates automatic test equipment to locate, diagnose and repair defective parts.

• Performs routine inspections on systems and equipment.

• Troubleshoots, tests and documents findings.

• Repairs or replaces components based on test results by following blueprints, schematics, handbooks and other technical documents.

• Fabricates, upgrades, routes and installs wiring harnesses.

• Represents group with team leaders, supply personnel, A&P mechanics, pilots and internal and external customers.

• Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

• Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

• Must be able to efficiently interface with Lead Avionics Technician.

• Must be experienced with fabrication of wire installations and all aspects of military specification connectors and contact terminations.

• Must have the capability to trouble-shoot avionics and instrumentation systems.

• Must be customer oriented and possess the communication skills required to efficiently and effectively interface and coordinate with the Operations Engineers and other technically qualified personnel.

• Must have knowledge in use of aircraft technical publications (read, interpret, and follow) and basic comprehension of schematic diagrams, drawings, and charts.

• Must be capable of working in confined spaces

• Must be able to work in the established work/living environment to include shifts as assigned, travel as part of a maintenance recovery team and support CONUS and OCONUS deployments as required.

• Must be able to perform operational checks, system adjustments and troubleshooting of communications, electronics and navigation systems as required.

• Must have a working knowledge of aircraft safety directives.

• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a government flight line driver's license.

• Must have an in-depth knowledge (aircraft/vehicle movement and safety/hazards) of flight line operations.

• Other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

• Licensing and Certifications:

• US Citizenship required

• High School Degree or GED required

• Minimum of five (5) years’ avionics experience required

• U-2/TR-2/ER-2 Aircraft experience required

Additional requirements:

• Ability to travel up to 25%

• Valid US Passport – must able to obtain if no current passport

• Valid State Driver’s License required

• Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Secret Security Clearance. Valid Active Secret preferred.

Physical Demands: This activity is usually accomplished in a flight line-like environment with extensive climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching and walking demands. May require lifting of objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds. Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close and peripheral vision, and acceptable depth perception.

Work Environment: The diversity of working conditions range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards, exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards exist.
