You will support the design and approval of aircraft interior products in the generation, review and approval of certification documentation in order to show compliance with relevant regulatory and customer requirements. Must have the ability to travel for training and/or customer interface, sometimes on short notice. This position reports to the Head of Certification for all Certification related issues. Positions located in Long Beach.
KEY AREA OF RESPONSIBILITIES: •Work with the global engineering services team, across multiple time-zones, in order to identify certification requirements for active and upcoming projects. •Work with the global engineering services team, across multiple time-zones, in order to develop and present solutions to certification issues involved in design activities being conducted. •To be a customer and supplier focal and Cabin Safety Subject Matter Expert for certification issues in one or more areas such as: oFlammability oInteriors Integration oElectrical and Systems Integration •Develop substantiation documentation in order to show compliance with relevant regulations including; oTest plans and reports oAnalysis documents oCompliance checklists oCertification programmes •Review and approve substantiation documentation produced by other members of staff or by suppliers to provide assurance of successful showing of compliance with relevant customer and regulatory requirements. •To work with junior members of the engineering services team in order to provide working knowledge and experience in FAA Part 25 as well as other relevant requirements. •International travel to customer and supplier sites in order to attend meetings, workshops and conduct test witnessing will be required. •To communicate with the key design organization personnel (HoDO, HoOAW) and, where appropriate, regulatory authorities, in order to discuss certification solutions and approaches taken by CDG. •Possess an understanding of engineering job practices, techniques, industry standards, principles, theories and concepts. •Interprets requirements and creates new methods of compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in engineering classification. Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical engineering degree preferred. Preferred Accreditation: American Board of Engineering & Technology (ABET)
Bachelor’s and 10-17 years’ experience. Product engineering encompassing components of the entire life cycle – concept to delivery. Engineering within Boeing Commercial Aircraft Group a plus.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: •Current or recent employment within the aerospace industry in a certification or similar role. •Current or previous authority as a FAA DER, AR in a certification based discipline preferable (please state what authority, if active and/or when lapsed on application) •Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of FAA regulatory and relevant aircraft interior FAA Part 25 requirements. •Able to demonstrate analytical skills and an ability to interpret the available regulatory and advisory materials in order to meet project success criteria. Engineering background an advantage. •Knowledge and experience of aircraft interior reconfiguration programs and showing of compliance with FAA requirements. •Familiarity with FAA/FAR requirements and the US Bilateral Agreement advantageous. •High level of attention to detail and capability of reviewing one’s own work. •Capability of leading a team in order to meet defined goals in line with agreed budgets and timescales. •Ability to work on multiple programs with varying level of requirements efficiently and effectively. •Ability to prioritize workloads and show flexibility to changing situations / demands. •Working knowledge of Boeing systems and process is a plus. •Ability to define and document processes as required
