The Engineering Special Projects Mgr plays an important role in the maintenance and engineering organization, strategically assisting the Director, Technical Services in achieving objectives related to a variety of engineering disciplines, subjects and projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Manage, monitor and coordinate SMS (Safety Management System) activities as directed.  These duties include, but are not limited to:
Coordinate the development, implementation, maintenance and integration of the SMS throughout Frontier.
Identify hazards and safety risk assessments including change management
Ensure effectiveness of safety risk controls
Promote safety
Advise the accountable executive on the performance of the SMS and on any need for improvement
Accountable for achieving safety performance relative to job tasks
Manage risk acceptable level; blue or lower as defined by Frontier’s company risk matrix
Conduct research and data collection to aid in the development of engineering documents
May review Airworthiness Directives and Service Bulletins for applicability
Manage the development of engineering data to accomplish modifications in response to ADs, Service Bulletins, SILs, etc.
Interact with applicable departments to define, maintain and optimize the CAMP and analyze and determine disposition of all reliability issues & improvements
Primary owner of reliability action items assigned to engineering; responsible for liaison with the applicable engineer as necessary to formulate action plans to improve component or system reliability while minimizing costs & aircraft out-of-service time
Responsible for developing cost benefit analyses for reliability improvements
Work closely with the component reliability analyst to ensure desired reliability is achieved through engineering actions
Responsible for work flow delegated by the Director, Technical Services
Ensure company policy is followed and relative procedures are kept current
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in 121 airline maintenance and engineering environment
  • Familiarity or direct experience with 121 airline CAMP program, reliability program and engineering services
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Experience with statistical process control, root cause analysis and process improvement
  • Prior supervisory experience with leadership attributes preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of FAR parts 121 and 25
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic License beneficial
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good computer and technical writing skills
  • Familiarity and understanding of time controlled parts, FARs, manufacturers’ documentation to include but is not limited to: maintenance manuals, OPCs, TSMs, wiring diagrams, aircraft drawings, CMMs, SBs, Ads and PMA parts
  • Exercise good judgment in working with people in a team environment as well as in aircraft maintenance and safety
