Position Description

• Install, maintain and repair high tech scientific equipment at customer sites both domestic and international
o Preventive maintenance visits
o Technical support
o Rapid response to problems in the field
o Assist with installation of systems
o Site inspections prior to installation
o Training of users

Position Requirements

• Strong mechanical and electronics assembly skills.
• Ability to work with complex, delicate components.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering diagrams and to follow standard operating procedures.
• Troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
• A good understanding of chemistry and physics at college level is highly desirable.
• Professional appearance and behavior. Strong interpersonal skills. High-energy person with positive attitude. Self-starter and finisher. Ability to work under pressure in changing environments.
• Familiarity with the following:
• Vacuum systems: turbomolecular pumps, ion pumps, ion vacuum gauges, cryo pumps, etc., and familiarity with UHV practices.
• High speed electronics: basic electronics skills including familiarity with diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, TDRs, multimeters, etc.
• Lasers: optical components (photo diodes, mirrors, lenses, beam samplers), relevant tools (beam profilers, spectrum analyzers, power meters, etc.), and a basic understanding of laser safety practices.
• Electrical and electromechanical systems: high voltage (cabling, breakdown, safety, etc.), power distribution, uninterruptible power supplies, pneumatic solenoids, transducers, motors.
• Computers: networking, administrative hardware and software tasks, word processing (technical document writing, spreadsheets, database entry, etc.).
• Extensive travel is required (both domestic and international).
• Based in Madison, Wisconsin
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related field (military electronics training and/or years of experience may be considered in place of degree).
•5 to 7 years relevant field service experience on high tech scientific instruments will be considered an advantage.
