Job Summary
 

The Flight Dispatcher is responsible for tracking flights, maintaining constant weather watch, coordinating with pilots, and assisting with coordinating flight activities with local and other agencies. 

Principal Accountabilities
  • Coordinates flights and flight plans with related agencies.
  • Maintains flight information on inbound and outbound flights of assigned aircraft. Monitors overdue flights with the proper agencies.
  • Point of contact (POC) for Flight Tracking / Following hardware and software (worldwide).
  • Receives and distributes hazardous weather information.
  • Coordinates use of the flight planning/pilot training areas. 
  • Coordinates routine operational issues and distributes weather conditions.
  • Activates Emergency Action Plan in the event of aircraft incident or accident.
  • Activates hurricane evacuation plan in accordance with the emergency action plan
  • May be required to be 24/7 “on call” via telephonic and other electronic means to respond to aircraft Emergency Locater Transmitter activations and other emergencies.
  • Coordinates servicing and handling at en-route stops and flight follows all legs until mission completion.
  • Maintains current phone list of pilots, mechanics, and applicable US Coast Guard officials.
  • Collects input and prepares Daily Operations Report.
  • Assists in drafting and updating SOPs and manuals.
  • Supports Flight Operations as required.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills 
  • Experience in aviation communications operations required. Knows terminology used in air navigation and is aware of air traffic control advisory radio procedures.
  • Familiarity with Federal Aviation Regulations and International Civil Aeronautical Organizations regulations desired.
  • Expertise in the use of: MS Office Access, Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint required.  Ability to analyze and write at a technical level required. Highly developed verbal and written communications skills desired. 
  • Excellent people and communication skills required.  Strong interpersonal skills are essential with ability to communicate with all levels of management and customer base.  
  • Ability to work independently.

Experience & Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates degree preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years’ experience in aviation operations, aviation weather, aviation dispatch, air traffic control or as a pilot desired.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to three (3) hours per day and sit for up to ten (8) hours per day.
  • Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs.
  • On occasion must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders.
  • Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depths.
  • Must be able to operate desk and laptop computers for up to twelve (12) hours per day.
  • Works in a normal office environment.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft. 
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.

Travel 
  • May be required to travel to and between CONUS locations as requested.
