Works within a machine shop environment. Programs 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machining centres using Heidenhain and Fanuc controls; sets and operates CNC multi-axis machines to produce R and D and production component parts. Uses tools, fixtures and machine settings to produce component parts, working to specifications, procedures and engineering drawings. Inspects produced parts using various measuring instruments and hand gauges and interprets CMM inspection results, making any relevant tool or work offset changes. Supports and inputs to the development of machining processes and tooling/fixture design. Liaises with engineering and tooling suppliers to improve tooling methods and design. Mentors and trains others. Uses problem solving techniques to solve machining and process related problems. Priorities workload in order to meet deliverable commitment timelines. Experience of 6 ‘S’ and lean manufacturing tools and techniques.
