Responsibilities:

The Ground Operations Team supports our Customer’s journey from the time they arrive at the airport, all the way until the Customers deplane and their bags are unloaded.

 

 

The Ground Operations Planning Team promotes the Southwest Airlines Vision by creating and delivering intuitive, innovative solutions that empower and support our Ground Operations Employees.  We support our Ground Operations Teams by delivering solutions to support the Ground Operations Core Business Objectives.

 

The Planning Intern(s) will assist this department with a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Innovate and make recommendations to Leadership based on results of testing and analysis
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of routine and ad hoc reports
  • Assist with the identification of areas to improve operational performance and business process through an understanding of Customer insights, future needs, and root cause.
  • Assist with post analysis and research of operational data.
  • Attend cross-functional meeting with other operational departments

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

 

EDUCATION:

 

Progress towards degree in Aviation, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Management, Accounting, Computer Science, or other Business-related degree.

Minimum junior level

Must be a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours) to be eligible.

Maintained 2.75 or above cumulative GPA

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:

  • Experience with Pivot Tables, Vlookup preferred
  • Change Management experience preferred
  • Knowledge of SQL and/or Tableau preferred
  • Knowledge and application of Six Sigma or lean methodology preferred
  • Knowledge and application of PMBOK, PMP preferred
  • Self-starter, critical thinker and innovator of ideas that could lower cost and increase value for SWA
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines
  • Problem solving ability with strong written/verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work independently and willingness to function as part of a Team
