Title HMV Quality Control Manager

The Quality Control HMV Manager is responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day leadership of Spirit Airlines’ Regulatory Compliance, Safety and Inspection functions. This involves the leadership of a staff focused on the delivery of technical compliance, safety and inspection functions in the carrier’s technical operations.  The Manager of HMV QC through delegation from the Director of Quality & Chief Inspector is responsible to maintain Liaison with the HMV Business Partners.  They will own responsibility for HMV Quality Control Representatives. This position directly impacts the operating and financial performance of the airline, the safety of employees and customers and the business success of the company.  This position will be responsible to perform investigations and compile reports concerning problems or incidents, as well as review and act upon problems surfaced by analysis reports and provide findings to the Director of Quality & Chief Inspector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assigns inspection functions according to Aviation Regulations, manufacturer’s maintenance and company procedures to ensure that aircraft are inspected to the prescribed standards of airworthiness and serviceability.
  • Ensures maintenance performed by company and maintenance provider personnel is in compliance with the Federal Aviation regulations and company procedures.
  • Responsible for the review of General Maintenance Manual revision submissions to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations and proper departmental interfaces are maintained.
  • Ensures strict and timely compliance with all FAA and other regulatory requirements as well as Spirit Airlines’ established policies and procedures. Promotes and secures adherence to policies that ensure the highest levels of safety through the HMV QC staff.
  • Working closely with the management team, establishes a clear overall business and operating strategy for the HMV Quality Control staff.
  • Coordinates with the Technical Operation management team and the training department to develop and implement corrective action plans based on results of investigations or findings.
  • Represents the Quality Control department with business partners and with regulatory agencies and industry organizations such as the FAA, NTSB, DoD, DoT, ATA, and CASE.
  • Establishes hiring standards; Reviews HMV Quality Control candidate applications and conducts interviews; Hires HMV QC Inspectors to ensure staffing requirements are being met.

Required skills/experience:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and current passport.
  • Master Degree preferred and/or Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hold a valid FAA-Issued Mechanic Certificate with Airframe & Powerplant ratings for at least 5 years
  • Must meet all requirements to hold the position of Manager QC exceeding the minimum standards set forth in CFR 14 Part 119.39, 119.65, and 119.67
  • Must not have held the same or similar position with another CFR 14 Part 121 or Part 145 certificate holder whose certificate was revoked, or is in the process of being revoked, where he/ she materially contributed to the circumstances causing revocation or causing the revocation process.
  • Seven to nine years’ experience as a CFR 14 Part 121 aircraft inspector, which should include a variety of working conditions and aircraft types.
  • Five to seven years’ experience in the leadership of a major quality organization functions in air transportation, either in the Quality Control or Quality Assurance areas.
  • Three to five years of experience in a supervisory capacity maintaining the same category and class of aircraft as operated by the company.
  • Related to the responsibilities required of this position, possess a full understanding of  the following  with respect to the company’s operation;
  • Prefer leadership experience in large organizations.
  • Teaching or instructor experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Trax and/or other ERP system, Technical records requirements, and FAA liaison experience.
  • Prefer experience in selection and training of inspectors as well as inspector training content development.
