Job Description

The Human Resources Manager contributes to American’s success through consulting, identifying and delivering HR services and solutions to assigned business group(s) that will result in enhanced business capability, performance and people engagement.  HR Business Partner identifies, articulates and champions the needs of the business group and works with key stakeholders to support their goals.

  • Build and leverage relationships at all levels in the organization, informing and assisting others while being viewed as a valued, trusted, and credible business partner
  • Acts as a trusted advisor of client leaders to assist them in carrying out their business and functional plans
  • Work with business leaders to effectively lead and execute all annual people processes for organization to include: Performance Management, Talent Assessments/Reviews, Talent Acquisition and Leadership Development
  • Provides guidance to clients to objectively assess and resolve employee relations issues, claims, charges. Interprets employment law. May include conducting investigations, interviews, data collection, and developing findings/recommendations.  May conduct disciplinary (up to and including) termination of employment processes. Puts success measures in place to coach managers to be proactive in employee relations and avoid reactionary situations
  • Identifies and capitalizes on opportunities to drive &/or lead change; facilitates effective change management initiatives into our dynamic business/industry
  • Develops & conducts team development/team building strategies both proactively and when necessary to improve team performance. Presents options to leaders on organizational structure, roles & responsibilities, employee development, etc
  • Serve as a company advocate, while ensuring that employees are supported and represented in a fair and consistent manner
  • Investigate and drafts responses for external complaints and charges to represent and defend the Company’s position and interests. Partner with internal and external legal counsel when appropriate
  • Manage requests for accommodations(ADA, Religious, and other applicable by law) in their business unit(s) to ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations
  • Facilitate resolution of human resources issues (e.g., escalated benefits and payroll issues, transfers/demotions, departmental/managerial concerns, etc.)
  • Provide clarification and interpretation of all company policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Conducts ongoing formal and informal HR training on harassment and discrimination
  • Explain and interpret government rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for employees and management
  • Develop, mentors, and supervises HR Specialist/Generalist(s)
  • Monitor and stay current with human resource trends and practices
  • Participates as required on special projects

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management or related field or equivalent experience/training
  • PHR/SPHR certification highly desired
  • 5+ years of human resources experience with a minimum of 3 years in handling employee relations investigations is required
  • 2+ years directly supervising a human resources team
  • Ability to travel internationally, up to 50% of the time
  • Bilingual in French or Spanish
  • Previous experience with an international clientele, preferred
  • Strong project management skills, highly desired
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with state and federal employment laws including but not limited to; FMLA, ADA, FLSA, NLRB, Title VII, etc.
  • Experienced in conducting internal complaint investigations and preparing legal responses is required
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, interpersonal skills, organizational, and analytical capabilities
  • Strong initiative and solid judgment abilities/skills
  • Demonstrated effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent project management, writing, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations in a professional and dignified manner
  • Ability to work independently and to be highly self-motivated
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and produce results​
