Overview:

Triumph Engine Control Systems is a leading global independent aerospace fuel system supplier for the commercial, military, helicopter and business jet markets. Based in West Hartford, CT. Triumph employs approximately 500 employees. The Company’s key products and services include electronic engine controls, fuel metering units and main fuel pumps for both the OE and aftermarket / spares end markets.

The Indirect Commodity Buyer reports to the Strategic Sourcing Manager and is responsible for negotiating, establishing, and managing contracts, for the indirect and capital expense spend categories. This role ensures that the services, supplies, or equipment procured are then delivered on-time, within budget, and with the most favorable terms to the company.

Responsibilities:

* Manages all activities related to procurement of the indirect commodity beginning with intent to purchase through delivery.
* Analyzes the requirements of the purchases, including preliminary specifications, preferred suppliers, and schedule when deliverables are is needed.
* Solicits and evaluates proposals for the managed spend. Understands the different levels of complexity in various quote packages and can evaluate proposal responses accordingly.
* Investigates and interviews potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements. Also evaluates the most appropriate supplier to be used for various purchased items and recommends the appropriate supplier to be used.
* Coordinates with enterprise commodity team to utilize enterprise suppliers to the maximum extent possible.
* Negotiates the lowest total cost for the commodity. Cost reduction and avoidance is a key metric of this role.
* Implements purchase contracts (ie Purchase orders, etc) that comply with company and government regulations.
* Assures that the commodity is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets the quality standards of the company.
* Maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, invoices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records and compliance with all department procedures and goals.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Business or related field required.
* 5 to 7 years of related Supply Chain/commodity buying experience.
* Experience with electronics and controls a plus
* Experience with engineering componets purchasing a plus
* Ability to function well in a fast paced, high pressure environment.
* Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
* Candidates will be required to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
* Skilled in writing Statements of Work
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as specifications, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals preferred.
* Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and the ability to speak effectively before groups of internal customers or employees of the organization.
* Excellent PC skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
* Negotiations and contract management experience needed.
* Ability to travel approximately 10% although the expectation is not to have extensive travel associated with this function.
* Experience with government procurement regulations (FAR) a plus.
* Knowledge of MRP software, preferably JD Edwards.
