Job Title: Inner Race Repair Technician

Description: Buffs out any damage that is deemed repairable by the standards set forth by the Association of American Railroads (AAR). Verifies the dimensions and the acceptability of repaired inner races for conformance to specifications of the company, customer and AAR. Maintains accurate counts of the various types of repairs made to the inner race and of any types of defect that were determined to be outside of the repairable guidelines set by AAR standards. Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or company management.

Overall Purpose: Repairs damage to the cone inner race through the use of hand tools or powered equipment, so that it will conform to company, customer and AAR requirements of acceptability.

Essential Functions:

1. Mounts part onto mandrel and holds or moves tools such as a carbide tip hand grinder or buffing wheel against the work piece to file, grind, polish or buff the surface.

2. Ensures that repairs meet acceptance criteria as defined by the company, customer and AAR, through visual inspection, tangible confirmation and the use of gauge equipment.

3. Uses a multiple counters to keep an accurate recording of the types of repairs or non-repairable defects of each inner race. Enters the information recorded on the counters onto a board where it is tallied before leaving the work station for extended breaks or the end of shift.

4. Marks the inner race with a non-permanent marking pen to indicate the findings and repairs made to the inner raceway.

Physical Demands & Frequency: Requires frequent lifting; reaching, handling and fingering.

A. Position: standing, walking, squatting, sitting.

B. Weights & Force: Lifting up to 40 pounds.

C. Use of Controls: Uses hand grinder, gauges.

D. Vision must be normal (20/20). Correctional lenses are acceptable.

General Educational Development: Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Information may be presented in written, oral or diagrammatic form and requires a common sense understanding to be applied in order to carry out the instructions. Basic math skills are required to fulfill the functions and responsibilities of the job.

Qualifications/Training: Candidate shall successfully complete training program and as applicable, qualification requirements, as defined by the responsible functional manager. The ability to set-up and interpret gauge equipment and readings is desired. New hires shall demonstrate satisfactory performance during new hire probationary period.

Training: On the job training provided.

Aptitudes: Requires motor coordination, finger dexterity and manual dexterity.

Temperaments: Able to perform repetitive or short-cycle work.

Environmental Conditions: Frequent impact noise, seasonal heat.

Protective Clothing and Personal Devices: Safety glasses, gloves and safety shoes.
