The Information Services team helps employees across Boeing create, access, understand, harness, manage, and disseminate information. They optimize the latest developments in information management strategies to support Boeing innovation and competitiveness, delivering high quality, cost effective solutions on a global scale.

The Organize & Manage team works with customers across Boeing to make sure that the right information gets to the right people in the most efficient way.

As experts in information management and licensing of technical and business information, they ensure the proper authentication, archival, management, curation, and retrieval of data through its lifecycle. Team members are also asked to consider data re-use potential, the authority of the sources the data comes from, and the restrictions on data governed by the terms of its use.

To help Boeing users organize and retrieve this data, they collaborate with enterprise business groups to analyze information requirements and content collections, establish appropriate metadata schemas, analyze search queries, create or adapt semantic models and develop, establish, and adapt controlled vocabularies.

The Taxonomist provides support that produces consistent, accurate, and complete information requirements that aid in the overall enrichment of the metadata lifecycle. This role will enhance metadata pertaining to the aerospace industry that follow established standards and guidelines, and that are consistent with the business objectives.

Responsibilities:

• Ability to communicate critical business value of metadata, controlled vocabularies, cataloging, and semantic technologies to key business stakeholders.

• Performs domain analysis, develops and applies controlled vocabularies to aid in search and discovery to support the information needs of the business.

• Responds to inquiries and performs operational assignments.

• Provides basic instructions to end users in accessing and using information from internal and external sources.

• Shares knowledge and contributes to the development of information management products and services.

• Collaborates with the other Information Management lifecycle job functions.

• Participates with Enterprise system architecture and applications function.

• Works under general supervision on tasks and projects of all degrees of complexity, supporting multiple units across the metadata group.

• Assess and enrich digital assets related to technical and engineering content.

• Provides support for improving workflows and resolving metadata issues across one or more areas of the business and across multiple projects.

• Helps identify and develop efficiencies as well as solutions for the metadata lifecycle.

• Analyze metadata deliverables by maintaining cohesive relationships with internal contributors, external resources, as well as business and technology partners.

Qualifications

Typical Education / Experience:

Bachelor's degree and typically 3 or more years' related work experience, a Master's degree and typically 1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications:
• Understanding of the purpose and structure of metadata schemas and controlled vocabularies, including taxonomies and ontologies.

• Familiarity with ANSI/NISO Z39.19 Guidelines for the Construction, Format, and Management of Monolingual Controlled Vocabularies

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to work as a team member and across organizational boundaries in a highly demanding environment.

• Knowledge of an information management center’s repository functions, services, and requirements.

• Knowledge of both bibliographic and non-bibliographic metadata standards such as Dublin Core, BIBFRAME, MODS, EADS, IPTC etc.

• Familiarity with XML, RDF, and W3C Semantic Technology Standards; familiarity with, or ability to learn Linked Data principles and standards.

• Conceptual knowledge of the purpose and use of Natural Language Processing and Text-Analytics.

• Ability with, or proven ability to learn, skills such as XSLT or scripting to transform and remediate metadata.

• Ability to write SQL queries to extract and analyze data.

• Experience with Java, Javascript, Python, another object-oriented programming language.

• Demonstrated ability to use online and PC-based applications for data analysis and reporting.

• Analytical and problem solving skills combined with attention to detail for complex detail-oriented work.

• Excellent oral and written communications.

• Flexibility to be organized, productive and effective in a dynamic environment, involved with a variety of simultaneous projects.
