At Delta Air Lines, we are continually looking to embrace new technologies and improve the customer experience. To further this objective, we are seeking a Lead Engineer to lead software engineering efforts within The Hangar, our innovation arm. At The Hangar, we work on initiatives across the entire business-initiatives range from our complex global operation to the digital booking experience. We're looking for someone who loves to tackle complex challenges, create groundbreaking ideas, and actualize the final products.

What would you do?
Build proof-of-concepts to demonstrate the impact of emerging technologies in Delta's various business units
Work cross-divisionally with our partners and business to define specifications and requirements for new products and explorations (proof-of-concepts on emerging technologies)
Lead a team of other engineers, made up of hardware engineers, software engineers, offshore/onshore contractors, and interns to deliver solutions for our various explorations and new products
Develop strategy around which frameworks, technologies and infrastructure our team should use in our proof-of-concepts and pilots, when evaluating new technologies
Create, prioritize, communicate, manage, and execute product roadmaps, project plans, and commitments
Lead our effort to scale and build an in-house engineering team

This job might be for you if you are:
A doer by default: You are passionate, self-motivated and take pride in building great experiences for users, whether they are employees or customers. You are resourceful in finding the data and tools you need to get the job done, and have a bias for action.
A strong software engineer that doesn't want a job heads-down coding all day-- you'll have frequent exposure to our business partners, and customers for user-testing
A strong communicator that can win over detractors through show, not tell. You enjoy working with people and can put yourself in other people's shoes. You're not afraid to ask for help when you need it, or help teammates when they need a boost.
You believe in strong opinions, weakly held-- you're not afraid to change your opinion in the face of new facts, and acknowledge what you don't know.
Are intensely curious about finding a solution to the pain-points of our passengers along the entire travel experience
Love travelling and can deeply empathize with our customers

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR? /WHAT EXPERIENCE DO YOU NEED?

Bachelor degree in computer science or engineering discipline, or equivalent experience
5+ years of software engineering/application development experience
Preferred experience with Node.JS or Angular.JS
Experience and comfort presenting to business and technical audiences
Understanding of RESTful architectures, data design patterns and cloud computing
Experience with developing solutions involving machine learning and IoT applications
Preferred experience with hardware, especially sensor data
Leadership experience required leading small to mid-size teams

WHAT ELSE?
What's it like working @ The Hangar?

We're a diverse team of engineers, designers and strategists. We believe we can make travel better, because it's complex and doesn't need to be.
We partner with business units on specific initiatives, but also run our own initiatives, including democratizing innovation throughout Delta and researching the effects of disruptive trends in our industry
We have an office an arm's length from Delta HQ in Midtown Atlanta to be at the heart of the Atlanta tech scene, but frequently visit HQ to innovate alongside our business partners
Our team values are Agility, Curiosity, Inclusivity, Futurism, and Empathy

Please include in your application/cover letter:
Any side projects you've worked on in the past few years
Any relevant experience in the travel, aviation or airline space

Benefits:

A full-suite of flight benefits that enable you to see the world
401k + matching
Health and Dental Insurance
Employee-only discounts
A competitive salary in a city aiming to be one of America's next top tech hubs
2 professional development opportunities a year (conferences, workshops, etc)
