UTC Aerospace Systems – Aerostructures, one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products for commercial, regional, business and military aircraft, helicopters and other platforms, has an immediate opening for a Manager, Manufacturing Engineering at our Riverside, CA facility.

Job Description Summary:

The Manager of Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for the development, productionization and optimization of products, processes and production lines within the manufacturing facility as well as the functional governance of Manufacturing Engineering across the programs within the site. The position collaborates with Programs, Engineering, Manufacturing Sites and Supply Chain to ensure products, processes and production lines are designed for manufacturability and successfully achieve full rate production on time with high quality and an effective cost structure over the entire product life-cycle.

Primary responsibilities:

* Drive Mfg. Technology, Tooling & Manufacturing Engineering best practices across all programs
* Implement mfg. solutions to meet program cost targets and continuously improve quality & productivity
* Identify, justify and execute strategic manufacturing projects that create competitive advantages
* Productionize new pilot manufacturing equipment and processes in support of project milestones
* Implement projects to improve time to market, reduce development costs and leverage resources
* Execute manufacturing innovation projects to increase capacity with lower capital spend requirements
* Support the Advanced Manufacturing and Make/Buy strategic planning processes
* Ensure phase gate reviews for manufacturing readiness levels (MRL), technology readiness levels (TRL) and in-service readiness level (ISRL) are used to monitor and mitigate risk
* Utilize capacity planning / rate readiness assessments as part of the Sales & Operations Planning process to ensure manufacturing at the site is aligned to meet business demand on time and at cost
* Deploy Business Intelligence tools and advanced manufacturing methods across all programs and processes to proactively improve key performance indicators (ex. Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
* Lead the deployment of the Production Preparation Process (3P) for new product introductions
Develop employees and the organization in alignment with personal, team and business unit objectives

Qualifications Basic Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical or Materials Engineering preferred)
* Seven (7) years Operations experience with three (3) years in a leadership role
* Strong analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities using root cause analysis and statistics
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Results oriented, with a strong bias for action
* Skilled at building effective teams and able to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced work environment
* Demonstrated success launching complex products using a phase-gate methodology
* Strong project management skills
* Proven ability to influence diverse cross-functional teams without formal authority

Preferred Qualifications:

* Master’s degree in science or business
* Chemical processing, complex machining, automation or composites manufacturing experience
* Demonstrated experience implementing world class manufacturing techniques
* Experience with single piece flow in a mixed model production
* Certified in Lean mfg. or Six-Sigma with demonstrated ability to establish and mature a CI culture


BS degree in related field w/6–10+ years experience

MS degree in related field w/4–7+ years experience
