Position Description

Performs a wide range of duties to develop and specify manufacturing operations including operational sequence, tooling, methods, equipment, and controls to efficiently meet quality and quantity requirements of a variety of product lines.

Position Requirements

Utilize Lean manufacturing methods to reduce costs and improve quality. Provide technical assistance to manufacturing departments, engineering and materials planning to eliminate unnecessary operations and clarify process instructions.

Using root cause analysis and the scientific method investigates and resolves product, equipment and tooling problems. Identifies new or additional equipment needs related to existing or new product manufacture. Evaluates new or used equipment to determine benefits and return on investment, ability to maintain the physical and dimensional requirements of components and products, and ability to meet safety and ergonomic requirements. Prepares appropriations for approvals and administers spending of budgeted dollars.

Assists Engineering / Manufacturing Manager in the preparation of investment and expense budgets for the addition or modification of equipment related to the short and long-range needs of the business.

Participates and assists sales and engineering in the design of new products related to manufacturing and equipment requirements. Coordinates new product introductions with production supervisors, team leaders, quality assurance and manufacturing engineering personnel to implement production of new products. Drafts and follows up on all documentation including engineering specifications and manufacturing procedures.

Directs and executes operational excellence projects and other projects aimed at meeting division objectives.

Keeps abreast of trends and improvements in the field of engineering and manufacturing through appropriate papers, publications and outside affiliations. Advises other areas of the company concerning his/her own areas of expertise.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises maintenance and test technicians and direct labor as assigned.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Four year college degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred. Requires experience and knowledge of lean manufacturing engineering, manufacturing processes, and machine shop practice and electro-mechanical principles. Familiar with characteristics and cutting qualities of materials, function and operation of machine tools; assembly, inspection and material flow.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering prints, electrical diagrams, company safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and company procedure manuals. Ability to read and interpret documents relating to all phases of operation of manufacturing facility. Ability to communicate articulately and effectively, both orally and written, with all levels of organization. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Ability to understand, use and explain mathematical concepts of all types, simple operations to complex statistical analysis.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized and non-standardized situations. Work requires considerable accuracy and responsibility.
