Job Description

American Airlines Federal Credit Union has an opening for a full-time Mortgage Loan Officer at its headquarters located in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Mortgage Loan Officer reports to the Mortgage Production Supervisor and the Mortgage Production Manager and is responsible for pre-qualifying Credit Union members to determine the proper loan program, complete loan applications and keep members informed of the loan status. Primary loan origination channels include but are not limited to the Credit Union's Internet site, referrals of members from Credit Unions branches, internal business units and external partners.  The Mortgage Loan Officer will also be expected to participate in member seminars and mortgage-related Credit Union events.

The Mortgage Loan Officer is also responsible for the timely and accurate processing and underwriting of loan files, proper pipeline follow-up and maintenance and may be required to assist in coordinating the closing as needed.

Mortgage Loan Officers may also assume team leadership roles and will work closely with the Mortgage Production Manager and Loan Officers to automate functions of the loan origination process and coordinate business and product development initiatives.

This position collaborates with other departments to provide excellent service to co-workers and members.  Assist Mortgage Production Manager and/or Supervisor with training and cross-training of Mortgage Loan Officers and other departments, as needed.

The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring the security and confidentiality of all account and related information which is part of their work and for ensuring that his/her work is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act.

Job level to be determined based upon qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Possess a thorough knowledge of all loan programs offered by the Credit Union, including forms and documentation for each type of loan, and the ability to apply that knowledge successfully in the job.
  • Proficiently utilize Mortgage Cadence lending system software (LOS).
  • Assist the member in completing online mortgage applications using Mortgage Cadence LOS, providing the member with all required disclosures and obtain necessary support documents.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of loans with members in accordance with Credit Union Policy and Procedures.
  • Set up loans, gather and review qualifying documents, place applicable orders for mortgage related services and process loans.
  • Perform income analysis of loan documentation, to include complex tax returns such as those for corporations, partnerships, and sub-S corporations.
  • Underwrite loans using automated underwriting programs and credit union decision matrices and referred loans not approved by the automated underwriting program to Credit Union underwriters.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all parties involved on each loan from application to close, utilizing clear and effective communications skills.
  • Possess a general understanding of how other Credit Union departments are interrelated with the Mortgage Department and the ability to apply that knowledge effectively in performance of the job.
  • Must be able to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must maintain an acceptable attendance record.

  • Provide excellent customer service to Credit Union members and employees.
  • Maintain referral relationships with realtors, builders, internal partners and members in association with the Credit Union member base.
  • Maintain effective communication with all Credit Union departments to ensure coordination and exchange of information for accomplishing Credit Union goals.
  • Work collaboratively with staff in analyzing and solving situations that may arise in the mortgage application and loan process.
  • Keep informed of trends and developments in the local real estate market.
  • Recommend product and pricing changes to ensure Credit Union is competitive within the industry.
  • Be familiar with federal and state regulations governing Credit Union lending, with particular emphasis on rules and regulations governing real property lending on first mortgage loans and secondary emphasis on home equity loans.
  • Strive for continuous improvement of processes and quality of service in support of Credit Union goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and/or work experience preferred.

  • Minimum of three years' recent mortgage loan origination and processing experience on conventional, FHA, and/or VA products or in the financial services industry preferred.

  • Minimum three years' experience in a customer service related industry preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written skills to effectively communicate in the English language. Strong math proficiency, with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Excellent oral and written skills to effectively communicate in the Spanish language.

  • Proficient PC skills (including mortgage software programs), with the ability to learn new software applications.

  • Ability to proficiently operate a variety of standard office equipment.

  • Ability to perform under deadlines in a team environment.

  • Ability to work independently, and as a team member, while using discretion in decision making and sound judgment in problem solving.

  • Ability to perform in a multi-tasked environment, with the ability to prioritize tasks.

  • Schedule flexibility to meet business needs.

  • Candidates will be required to pass applicable American Airlines pre-hire compliance checks.

  • Must have acceptable credit history, which will be verified (e.g., no past due accounts, charge-offs, collection items or bankruptcies).
