Responsibilities:

DESCRIPTION:

The Network Planning Department is tasked with planning Southwest’s point-to-point network of cities we serve, scheduling our aircraft, and creating flight schedules that best serve the travel needs of our valued Customers. Through heavy analytics, the Network Planning Department focuses on building schedules that are most effective and profitable for Southwest Airlines.

 

The department is built of various teams where each has its individual functions that cross functionally work together in planning and producing the most marketable, operational, and the most profitable schedules. The teams collaborate heavily with other departments, including Ground Operations, Revenue Management, Marketing, Properties, General Counsel, Communications, and Financial Planning, and the Fleet Planning Team.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Develop knowledge of general industry and competitive issues as it relates to Network Planning.

 

Conduct analysis and report on specific operational, traffic, and competitive issues.

 

Learn department tools and project development process.

 

Learn sources of schedule and planning data.

 

Some travel required.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

 

Must be at least 18 years of age.

 

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

 

EDUCATION:

 

Major/Minor in an AviationAeronauticalOperational ResearchEconomicsFinance, orBusiness related undergraduate degree program.

 

Minimum junior level.

 

To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full time student (minimum 12 credit hours).

 

Maintained 2.75 or above cumulative GPA.

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:

 

Interest or experience in the Aviation industry is a plus.

 

Analytical and organizational skills.

 

Ability to use Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required.

 

Ability to create basic analyses and graphics using Excel required

 

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

 

Ability to use Access is preferred.

 

Ability to use Word and PowerPoint to write memos and build presentations.

 

Participation in Academic Associations and extracurricular activities is preferred.

 

Ability to manage time and multiple tasks effectively.

 

Looking for an individual who is highly motivated.

 

Able to work with minimum guidance and professional in their conduct.
