Position Description

The Principal Engineer, Electrical will be a member of the Product Engineering leadership team. The principal engineer is responsible for providing guidance and technical oversight on electrical matters to multiple teams working on numerous products and developing various forms of technologies. Additionally, the principal engineer is a leader who mentors the entire organization in technical matters related to the electronics of the product. The Principal engineers also conducts engineering studies and investigations, and prepares technical reports for company leadership. He/She will also provide engineering guidance to other departments, help to train new engineers and keep abreast of industry trends and issues.

• Specify, design and evaluate electrical, electromechanical and overall system control architecture of systems and individual components by applying principles of electrical and materials engineering.
• Communicates and performs presentations to all levels of management
• Drives programs to continually contribute to reduced new product development cycle time.
• Provide technical guidance on planning and executing assigned projects.
• Experience supporting and implementing Lean Continuous Improvement methodologies
• Assist Management in project budget and schedule preparation activities.
• Work with engineering team to oversee warranty reviews and product return reviews.
• Evaluate existing engineering processes and recommend improvements
• Recommend new technologies to improve product performance and reliability.
• Perform or facilitate failure analysis and provide corrective actions.
• Provide technical guidance and direction on electrical matters for day to day engineering problems faced by members of the engineering team.
• Collaborate with vendors to produce mechanical components and assemblies.
• Responsible for design/development activities which may include leading, participating in, coordinating or supporting:
1. Concept, planning, design and execution stages
2. Risk assessment
3. Prototyping/testing
4. Design reviews
5. Verification , Validation & Qualification
• Create engineering drawings, test plans, and technical reports
• Assist in the creation and release of Product Requirements, Design Specifications, and Design Descriptions for assigned designs, applicable standards and procedures. Responsible for recording and sharing technical knowledge gained with colleagues.
• Review product documentation for accuracy.
• Mentor other engineers and technicians.

Position Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering
• 15 + years’ progressively responsible experience in a manufacturing environment. Supervisory experience preferred.
• Ability to train and interface with a diverse workforce, including contingent workforce
• Leadership skills to influence the actions and opinions of others in a desire direction to exhibit judgment in leading others to worthwhile objectives
• Excellent verbal & written communications – Able to clearly present information and influence or persuade others through oral presentation in positive or negative circumstance.
• Strategic thinking combined with outstanding tactical execution – must possess a sense of urgency.
• Experience utilizing lean processes and concepts as well as lean manufacturing
• Exposure to lean manufacturing/organizational development / change management
• The ability to work independent of direct daily supervision
• Enthusiasm, dynamism, and a positive, can-do attitude
• Experience working with AS9100 quality system and/or FAA regulations is a plus
• Strong computer skills including CADD Software, word processing, spreadsheets and databases is a plus

• Ability to multi-task and to adapt to changing priorities
• Effective listening skills
• Critical thinking — using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
• Complex problem solving — identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
