Principal Service Engineer (Phoenix)

Responsibilities:

WORK ACTIVITIES/CONTEXT:

  • Provides on-site engineering assistance to SWA Maintenance at primary assigned station, remotely located from base operations, and other stations as needed.
  • Routine responsibilities include:
    • Provide technical instructions and substantiation for repairs to correct discrepancies not covered by the manufacturer's technical data.
    • Investigate and develop guidance to correct in-service performance issues, and repeat discrepancies.
    • Interpret technical requirements in manufacturer's technical manuals.
    • Coordinating technical requirements with manufacturers to support repair data.
    • Clarify and resolve technical issues for personnel within Technical Operations.
    • Support incorporation of aircraft alterations and modifications.
    • Submit revisions to technical data and manuals to reflect current best practices, and maintain instructions for continued airworthiness.
    • Provide on-call, and non-standard work shift to assure operational expectations are fulfilled.
  • Maintain current knowledge on latest regulatory requirements/guidance, policies, manual revisions, and engineering documents.
  • Develop and manage projects as requested by engineering management.
  • Provide technical assistance to support SWA field services at third party maintenance facilities.

Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description.

 

May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders.

 

Provides friendly service to and maintains positive relationships with all internal and external Customers.

 

Works in a cooperative spirit to ensure the success of our Company.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required. 

Must be at least 18 years of age. 

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986. 

EDUCATION: 

  • Bachelors of Science - Engineering (required).  

WORK EXPERIENCE: 

  • Ten(+) years of airline Engineering experience (required).
  • Previous Liaison, operational, or service engineering experience supporting in-service aircraft operations (preferred).
  • 3+ years of 737 or Boeing aircraft experience (preferred).  

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION:

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant license (preferred).
  • FAA-DER designation (preferred).

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:   

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.; Climb ladders; work from heights of 40+ feet; work within small enclosed areas; work in the vicinity of fuel and other chemicals.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to work independently, under stressful situations, under tight time constraints and across all multiple shifts.
  • Must be a self-starter, self-motivated and have a "warrior" attitude to provide superior Engineering support and Customer service to maintain the most compliant and safest 737 fleet in the world.
  • Must be conscientious and detail oriented.
  • Skilled and knowledgeable across multiple engineering disciplines as related to aircraft maintenance and troubleshooting (Avionics/Electrical, Interiors, Powerplant, Systems, Structures), with strong structural background.
  • Skilled in evaluation aircraft performance issues and discrepancies, and development of effective problem-solving/troubleshooting procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of the regulations and programs governing aircraft certification, maintenance, and operations. 

Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines. 

Must be able to work well with others as part of a Team.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be flexible with shift work schedules
  • Must be able to work the late night or overnight shifts

 

 

Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines.
