What does an IT Program Manager do for Allegiant?

The wide variety of tasks an IT program manager may fulfill include:

* Account management; supervision of employees and external consultants; handling daily staff assignments; planning and administering budgets; controlling income and revenue; and tracking program expenses.

* In order to deliver multiple related critical projects that are related to a common strategic goal a program manager is critical to focus the organization on delivering all components in a timely manner.

* In order to manage financial and human resources related across multiple projects within a program (with a single budget) the addition of a program manager is critical.

* In order to supervise and direct the efforts of multiple project managers working on dissimilar projects within a group of projects (program) that are codependent and necessary to deliver value to the enterprise it is critical to have a single responsible
individual (program manager).
* In order to align dissimilar goals of multiple business units into a common enterprise initiative a program manager will synchronize communication. This ensures that the business understands the sequence of delivery from an enterprise perspective.

What are some of the daily duties of an IT Program Manager?

* Strategy: Program managers work with members of an organization’s senior management team to set the overall strategy and objectives for a group of projects.

* Resource Allocation: To ensure project teams have the resources they need, program managers establish budgets and allocate people and technical resources to individual teams.

* Prioritization: To ensure that financial and human resources are well invested program managers establish priorities within the overall program and allocate resources in line with those priorities. To minimize waste and reduce costs, they
identify tasks that are common to a number of projects and ensure that teams do not duplicate work.

* Planning: Program managers work with individual project managers to establish plans and goals for each project. They set objectives, assign tasks, allocate budgets and agree to timetables for achieving intermediate and overall goals. They
also set review dates to ensure that projects remain on target. To obtain the information they need to coordinate and monitor progress across all projects, program managers establish a formal reporting structure.

* Communication: Communication is a key responsibility for program managers. They work closely with project managers to track progress and provide updates on any changes in strategy or priorities to the business units. Program managers also
report to senior executives and product managers on the progress of individual projects and the overall program.

* Job Requirements: Applicants must have a strong background in project management. They require strong leadership skills to coordinate and motivate project teams. They must be adept at financial management to administer budgets across multiple
projects and ensure the program meets its requirements for return on investment. Prior experience managing project managers and/or delivering programs comprising of multiple individual projects.

What are the minimum requirements to be an IT Program Manager?

* Education Requirements: College degree required
* Certifications: Project Management Practitioner (PMP), Certified Scrum Master/Practitioner (CSM/CSP), Project Plus or similar certifications while not required are extremely helpful.

* Work Experience 5+ years experience as a project manager. One year experience leading a team of project managers; Experience in process creation and documentation

What other skills, knowledge, and qualifications are needed to be an IT Program Manager?

* Technical understanding of the airline/travel industry, E-Commerce platforms, aircraft maintenance systems, airline accounting systems, airline reservation systems and departure control systems.

* The ability to bring people together to solve major problems
* The ability to train and mentor less senior team members
* The ability to communicate clearly and concisely with technical and non-technical stakeholders including marketing teams, operations teams, financial planning teams etc.

What are the physical requirements of an IT Program Manager if applicable?

* Ability to work long hours as necessary to address production issues.
* Ability to work overnight or various shifts as necessary.
* Ability to work in a stressful to very stressful environment.
* Ability to travel nationally/internationally as required to coordinate work with vendor teams
