Position Description

Manage Quality and Inspection team activities. Ensure quality control procedures are developed and followed for material and product acceptance. Develop and analyze data and specifications to establish present product standards and define proposed quality and reliability requirements.

Formulate and document product quality objectives with specific procedures to obtain optimum product quality and reliability. Plan and direct activities concerned with development, application and maintenance of quality standards and objectives.

Receiving and Incoming Inspection - Direct and coordinate the receipt of parts and the quality inspection of parts, components and materials produced by subcontractors or suppliers to determine conformance to standards. Establish and maintain levels of documentation required to insure inspection and history on all purchased parts. Coordinate the segregation, handling, documentation and reshipment of non-conforming material. Implement an effective Dock-to-Stock program to eliminate unnecessary inspections.

In-process Inspection - Ensure that the testing and inspection of products at various stages of production process occurs and evaluate data to determine and maintain the quality and reliability of products. Assist in the product development process to ensure appropriate levels of in-process inspection occur. Monitor and maintain inventories of specialized materials and supplies used by QA personnel.

Final Q.C. - Develop and manage the Final Q.C. function at an effective level while ensuring on-time shipments of acceptable quality level products. Supervise and coordinate acceptance procedures, development of inspection reports and final sign off for shipment. Maintain orderly quality records. Make final acceptance for shipment decisions in cooperation with Marketing and customer as appropriate. Assist Manufacturing Engineering in the method sheet development process to ensure appropriate Final Inspection and Tests occur and that methods sheets are accurate, clear and will reliably produce acceptable quality parts.

Cleaning - Manage in-process and the final cleaning, packaging and shipping of completed products to final customers. Assist in the development of new cleaning and packaging processes to meet customer needs.

Supplier Quality Performance - Assist purchasing in establishing standards for supplier performance. Monitor supplier compliance with Zygo standards. In coordination with Supplier Engineering conduct supplier surveys to qualify and disqualify suppliers and participate in making decisions to qualify/disqualify suppliers based on quality issues. Assist Supplier Engineering in obtaining Root Cause/Corrective Actions from suppliers.

Material Review Board and Scrap - Maintain control and documentation over material under review. Coordinate the review of nonconforming material and assist in determining its disposition. Ensure that the proper nonconforming material documentation and process is followed.

Quality Assurance - Review data from customer service, marketing, in-process inspection and test to produce periodic quality reports to provide feedback to manufacturing, engineering and marketing. Maintain metrics related to quality for both internal use and publication to customers. Ensure that appropriate Corrective and Preventive actions are initiated when product quality issues arise. Participate in product quality improvement task teams. Maintain calibration control of monitoring and measurement devices throughout the facility.

Manage the Quality function in a cost effective manner while producing acceptable quality shipments. Train and develop subordinates in quality standards and proper performance of Inspection tasks.

Use the Total Quality Process to solve problems. Assist others in the company to learn and use the Total Quality Process.

Ensure the Quality Management System is being complied with and improved as necessary. Manage internal QMS auditors providing training, scheduling and reviewing audit reports and making sure responsible parties develop and implement corrective actions identified in any findings. Host customer and registrar QMS audits.

Be the point of contact and provide oversight for other assigned areas of responsibility, such as interfacing with Calibration, EHS and Insurance contractors.

Provide the management oversight to assigned sites.

Position Requirements

B.S. degree in a technical or business discipline.

Minimum 10 years' of experience in Quality Control, testing or production including 5 years' experience in a supervisory position.

Proven success in managing compliance with ISO-9001, ISO-1348 or a similar Quality Management System.

Technical knowledge of high quality optical product fabrication and metrology expertise required.

Training or working experience with Lean, Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement methods and familiarity with OSHA/Environmental regulations is a plus.

Travel will be required, but will typically be less than 10% annually.
