Job Description

The Senior Business Systems Analyst is a member of the HR Functions technology team, and part of the Employee Technology Department at American Airlines. This team helps American ‘go for great’ by innovatively supporting philosophy, process and tools as needed to support the HR lines of business. This position reports to the Sr. Manager, HR Functions. Join the team as we innovatively construct all things HR at the world’s largest airline.

POSITION PURPOSE:
Under broad-based direction, works with resource manager and team responsible for interpreting business requirements to solve complex business problems using differing technologies and systems views, across multiple functional domains on high profile and/or mission critical efforts and projects. Understands project management and integrates with business requirements.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates business requirements for various projects and develops the following artifacts as applicable:
  • Business Requirements Document (BRD)
  • Functional Specification Document (FSD)
  • Test Plan
  • Creates process flows and business flows by collaborating with the development and business teams
  • Serves as conduit between developers, architects and designers, and with internal business partner and/or vendor companies
  • Provides technical/functional assistance in identifying, evaluating and developing systems and procedures that are cost effective and meet user requirements
  • Supports team by assisting with functionality questions, testing, implementation, and other deployment and delivery functions, as assigned

  • Under Manager’s direction, oversees the following aspects of assigned projects:
    • Project/Scope definition
    • Project plan and schedule creation
    • Project status tracking and reporting
    • All deliverables and wrap-up
  • Interfaces with all stakeholders (business, IT, management and vendors) to obtain and provide appropriate level of information related to assigned projects
  • Ensures proper project document requirements and deliverables are clearly defined and delivered
  • Conducts project meetings; completes project tracking/analysis reports; reports project progress, issues, and risks to IT management and business
  • Tracks/reviews IT, business and vendor deliverables
  • Assists in obtaining technical and analytical guidance for the project team

Job Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in CS/CE/CIS/MIS/Engineering/Technology or Business Administration related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant technical or business work experience.
  • Advanced expertise in SDLC – Agile preferred.
  • Rally experience preferred.
  • Experience in SAP SuccessFactors HCM preferred.
  • Advanced ability to plan strategically for current and future business environments, including future technology and business design changes to create flexible solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of systems flows, engineering documentation, tools and architecture concepts.
  • Advanced understanding of business systems and industry requirements, and full technical knowledge of systems analysis.
  • Must be well organized, thrive in a sense-of-urgency environment, leverage best practices, and most importantly, innovate through any problem with a can-do attitude.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enterprise level applications experience in a systems analyst, or subject matter expert role is a plus.
  • SQL scripting and reporting tool experience is a plus.
