 The Senior Component Maintenance Manager is responsible for component reliability and vendor component maintenance performance by ensuring components are maintained in accordance with Air Canada technical and regulatory requirements.  The incumbent will oversee the adherence to our operational support & budget objectives for the various Air Canada Maintenance & Rouge Component fleets and provide direction towards cost saving initiatives.  Additional responsibilities will include meeting corporate operational performance expectations, development and management of vendor commercial agreements, commercial leadership, involvement in processes and infrastructure to ensure aircraft component maintenance services are performed in a cost effective manner.

  • Manage and support Component Vendor Manager’s to ensure they perform their duties and manage their vendor’s effectively.
  • Provide direction to the Reliability technical team of the assigned products to ensure improvement.
  • Raise financial justification for product improvement strategies.
  • Lead the development of component reliability product improvement strategies to drive cost reduction initiatives through ROI justifications, followed by execution.
  • Develop new component reliability processes and manage the Control Manual updates.
  • Establish and monitor the applicable KPIs necessary to invoke quarterly & annual Performance management reviews including cost, schedule, reliability and quality.
  • Provide recommendations for reliability and peripherals process improvement.
  • Prime liaison for all daily activities (technical & commercial) with vendors.
  • Oversee and optimize the Component budget using management tools.
  • Define components maintenance priority & criticality and perform follow-up with vendors.
  • Be accountable for demonstrated actual performance against goals and monitor on regular basis.
  • Establish scrap limits / rules and replacement strategy for the entire Component Vendor Management organization.
  • Establish processes to ensure the staff has the ability to monitor Vendors’ KPIs and liaise as required to extract the maximum value the contracts provide.
  • Foster a strong rapport within and outside department to ensure process control points are maintained across all interfaces with the Component Maintenance processes.
  • Ensure that vendors meet the Service Level Agreement requirements and performance expectations.
  • Lead cost reduction activities within the group, and liaise closely with other managers and stakeholders through the Cost Transformation Process.
  • Review / reconcile / resolve or dispute all vendors’ invoices for the Component Maintenance organization. 
  • Analyze and operationalize the vendors’ contracts by establishing the required Interface procedures and documenting those procedures in an Interface Control Document. 
  • Identify new business processes / innovation opportunities and transition activities.
  • Define and document processes, including process maps, and maintain control manual to reflect most current processes.
  • Lead and coordinate SOX/ 52-109 compliance activities related to their respective business unit.
  • Responsible for annual asset inventory audit reconciliation/ sign off pertaining to their respective business unit.
  • Interfaces with Air Canada Maintenance Commercial organization in the preparation/ negotiation/ execution of contracts with suppliers.
  • Attend daily production/ operations conference calls and provide status of Component availability/recovery plans as required.
  • Work closely with Finance and Planning to prepare the annual Component Maintenance and Operational budgets and ensure all costs are captured. 
  • Participate in the maintenance technical Material Review Board meetings.


  • Minimum 5 years’ relative experience as a manager and/or as an engineer in a technical field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or other technical discipline or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong communicator with the demonstrated ability to lead motivate and develop personnel to achieve operational objectives within a multi-disciplinary organization.
  • Familiar with Transport Canada Aviation regulations and norms.
  • Demonstrated capability to carryout independently technical projects or developments of high complexity to their successful completion within the budgeted time and cost, with supervision and guidance as to the objectives only.
  • Understand Reliability tools / terminology and familiarity with Industry Reliability analysis.
  • Familiarity with supply chain component repair processes.
  • Strong project management expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience in business process re-engineering.
  • Strong analytical, planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills, including negotiation.
  • Demonstrated experience in cost & benefit tracking, and strong analytical skills.
  • Must have in depth knowledge of Mechanical equipment or manufacturing technologies environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer software (Excel, Word, Microsoft Project,) and MRP / ERP systems.
