Our Aircraft Group in East Aurora, NY is hiring for a Sr. Component Engineer. The Sr. Component Engineer will provide technical guidance in the selection, control, and sustainment of electronic components used in our commercial and military flight control systems.

Here’s what you can expect as a Sr. Electrical Component Engineer

(1) Promote the standardization of components. Advise Design Engineering and Purchasing of contractual component selection criteria, new technology/alternate/substitute parts, COTs acceptability, availability and prohibited parts. Review for compliance with contractual PMP requirements. Maintain Part Report Card for commercial parts.
(2) Review, interpret and tailor military, commercial and space customer PMP requirements. Prepare cost effective component SCDs/SIDs.

(3) Prepare associated data item submittals in support of customer PMP requirements including:
• Parts Control Program Plan
• Non-Standard Part Approval Requests (NSPAR's)
• Contractor-Selected PMP Lists
• Action Forms
• Radiation Vulnerability Assessment Reports (RVARs)

(4) Serve as the Parts Control Chairperson of the PCB (Parts Control Board), when contractually required. Interface with the customer PMPCB, as required. Advise Program Management/ Purchasing/Contracts of problems or technical issues related to PMP Program progress/required actions.

(5) Serve as the primary advocate of Moog’s Component Obsolescence Management Program. Conduct a periodic BOM review to identify obsolescence and diminishing source issue. Report results to Design and Purchasing. Suggest alternate/substitute parts/sources.

(6) Provide support to proposals including:
• Cost estimates and/or technical exceptions for Component Engineering activities
• The review of supplier technical exceptions to component requirements
• Representation of Component Engineering in contract fact-finding negotiations and at formal design reviews with the Customer

(7) Provide technical assistance to QE/SQE in support of vendor DPA/Up-screening Control Procedures, Source Inspections, vendor surveys/audits, supplier problems and Inspection Planning.

(8) As necessary, provide technical support to the QE-managed Failure Reporting/Failure Analysis Reporting (FR/FAR) process for component failure investigations in which the failure cause is not quality/workmanship-related. Prepare and process Action Forms which document the failure, its cause, retention rationale and corrective action required to gain approval.

(9) As necessary, serve as a technical liaison between the supplier and Moog Design, Purchasing, and/or Quality Engineering for the resolution of technical issues.

(10) Review EOs for compliance with program PMP requirements. Prepare Deviations/Waivers that may be necessary to obtain customer approval.

(11) Identify the appropriate PMP flow-down requirements to subcontractors. Review subcontractor part drawings and data submittals.

In addition to the above experience you’ll need:

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics with a minimum of 6 years of experience as an Engineer with some of that experience as a Component Engineer.

Although these requirements (above) are preferred, we are open to considering candidates with extensive applicable experience in Component Engineering.
