The Airline industry is constantly changing and Delta Air Lines is at the forefront of the evolution of how the consumer buys and interacts with the products and services available to them. The Senior Java Developer will provide leadership and technical architectural expertise to enable multi-layered solutions that comprehend and specify business, application, data and infrastructure designs. The ideal candidate for this role will possess a passion for technology and a desire to have exposure to, and learn more about the way the corporate customers interact and buy Delta Air Lines products and services.
The Senior Developer will provide the technical design for computer software projects and is responsible for guiding the development, maintenance, enhancement, and support of applications, with a primary focus on the delta.com's post purchase team. This position will help to develop appropriate software and documentation according to Delta's standards and methodologies, as well as support and troubleshoot computer systems including optimizing performance and resolving problems. This role will be based in Atlanta.
Your primary functions are to design, develop, document, test and debug new and existing software systems and/or applications for internal use, perform defect corrections (analysis, design, code).
Leads and influences technical direction for large-scale, highly complex technical initiatives and/or projects requiring integration of cross-functional systems. Provides technical guidance in evaluating applications systems or evaluating requests for proposals.
Work with Enterprise Architecture and Infrastructure teams to ensure that the Delta methodology, standards, and procedures are adopted and implemented.
Ensure that the technical solutions align with the designed solutions, meet the customers' business goals, and that customer satisfaction with the end product is high.
Perform technical leadership role in providing direction, tools, and process support to other associates.
Act as a point of contact for technical issues, creating documentation and monitoring service levels.
Coordinate activities with internal/external technology owners/service providers.
Consult within project team, with other Delta teams, and with outside vendors to ensure project or product integrity.
Keep abreast of industry trends through benchmarking, participation in professional associations etc. in order to advise others of strategic technology direction.
Help to define and communicate enterprise standards and procedures.
Understand and apply the enterprise vision and strategy to the project solution while balancing tactical needs to deliver.
Mentor Developers on the team.
BS/MS degree, preferably in a technical or scientific field
10 years of software development experience required, with a minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience working with services and integration technologies
The ideal candidate will have an expert level competency in one or more technology areas:
A broad system-level expertise across multiple computing platforms and technologies with the ability to influence technical direction at the team level and across multiple Delta projects or technology areas is also preferred
Other specific requirements:
Hands on eCommerce development experience
Experience in developing solutions for both back-end Java applications and front-end GUI implementations
Hands on experience with Java development in a high volume environment
Knowledge of various J2EE and servlet containers such as Websphere
Extensive knowledge of Java internals, JVM tuning and troubleshooting.
Proficient in JSON, Struts, Spring, XML, web services (SOAP, REST)
Knowledge and experience working with APIs, messaging, middleware, WebSphere/Rational Suite preferred
Experience with source control and build tools
Experience with Continuous Integration and Test Driven Development
DevOps experience/knowledge is a plus
Understanding of Object modeling and deciphering custom and vendor supplied schemas.
Experience with large scale load balanced physical architectures to support consumer facing websites
Experience with JIRA, Confluence, GIT (github, Bitbucket or other)
Experience with both Agile and Waterfall methodologies; with an interest in helping teams transform into an Agile methodology
Experience with Service Oriented Architecture Integration Design Patterns and insight into establishing, consuming, and routing messages, connectivity protocols and policy
Solution-oriented using rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions, probing all sources for answers
Must be a self-learner with the ability to pick up new technologies and provide tangible results.
Airline industry knowledge is a plus
Working knowledge of Salesforce API integration and a passion to work with Salesforce including general configuration activities and development of visual force pages, apex classes and apex trigger
