Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Sr. Product Design Engineer

This position is within the Phoenix Mechanical Design team designing gas turbines and related components for Honeywell Engines. The Phoenix Mechanical Design team is part of Aerospace Engineering and Technology, MCOE, Mechanical Design organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design of propulsion engine and auxiliary power unit high and low pressure turbines, nozzles and components
• Coordinate entire design process including initial estimation of design effort, establishing drawing release milestones, managing project scope and budget, communicating resource needs
• Create design layouts, models and detailed drawings using Siemens NX CAD software
• Implement Design-to-Cost and Design-for-Manufacturing ideas
• Perform concurrent engineering with suppliers
• Ensure design meets customer requirements
• Document work by preparing engineering reports
• Support products in production, diagnosing and addressing field issues as they relate to mechanical design (drawing interpretation, tolerance stacks, processing drawing changes, etc.)
• Participate in departmental initiatives to improve tools and processes (Model Based Enterprise, Guide files, etc.)

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

• 8 years of gas turbine design experience

• 8+ years demonstrated experience and proficiency with CAD tools (e.g. NX)

• 3+ years demonstrated experience with PLM tools (e.g. Teamcenter)

• 3+ Experience with analytical tools to evaluate design concepts feasibility (e.g. ANSYS)

• 8+ years experience creating engineering drawings per industry standards

• 8+ years broad design experience covering varying component types

• Due to site and ITAR requirements, candidates must be a US Citizen or lawful permanent resident of US

Additional Qualifications:

• Knowledge of ITAR regulations and restrictions involving military products

• Demonstrated ability to lead the design of new products

• Experience creating design layouts

• Experience managing workflow and leading others in project team environment

• Experience using advanced NX functionality (PMI, path animation, etc.)

• Experience utilizing GD&T including application in inspection and use of inspection tools (Geomagic)

• Strong technical, analytical, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills

• Works with self-direction, takes initiative, exercises sound judgment, discretion, and capable of complex decision making in a dynamic work environment

• Demonstrated willingness to adopt new tools and processes, and support implementation

• Experience working directly with industry turbine component suppliers to reduce part costs and improve yield

• Proven ability to produce innovative solutions to design challenges

• Proficient with Microsoft products – Lync, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
