Position Expectations 


Position Title: Senior Project Manager Information Technology (IT)

Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager, Information Technology (IT) plans, coordinates and manages a portfolio of projects between IT and assigned business units. The Senior Project Manager interfaces with project managers, business leaders, and others within the assigned Business functional area to actively lead all aspects of the project from start to finish, including project team definition, project planning, documentation, vendor selection contract management, product purchasing, full project execution, tracking, reporting, rollout, interfaces with training and support groups, and formalized project closure.  The Project Manager assumes backup role of IT Manager in area of responsibility, when the IT Manager is not available or upon request of the IT Manager

Essential Responsibilities

  • Produce clear, detailed project scoping and requirements documentation to support Business capabilities to be used by technical specialists to build appropriate solutions.

  • Create requirements specification and project plan. Define project team; establish resource allocation decisions with managers of each IT discipline; coordinate vendor selection and contract management; facilitate product purchasing and establish success criteria.

  • Collaborate with developers, architects, subject matter experts and other IT members to confirm the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs.

  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with internal/external customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements and deliver functional requirements and use Case documentation

  • Define project high level scope, establish stakeholders, considering financial, resource, and technological constraints; develops cost estimates with consideration to business impacts and risks.

  • Collect technical documentation, deployment plan, production support plan. Interface between IT and business units and/or vendors.

  • Manage changes, risks, scope, cost, quality, communications, time, and procurement.

  • Collect formal acceptance, evaluate established success criteria to determine success. Close cost accounts and contracts.

  • Conducts IT Manager role when IT Manager is not available and/or upon direction of the IT Manager conducts business in their absences.

  • Acts as the IT SME in conjunction with Business SME to provide post-implementation product support. 

  • Ensure that JetBlue IT and business standards and procedures are maintained in accordance with Company policies, audits, security, and regulatory requirements 

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • High School or General Education Development (GED) Diploma

  • Seven (7) experience in managing  projects

  • Expert in industry standards in project management and development methodologies (PMBOK, MSF, SEI, Agile Methods, RUP, etc.)

  • An appropriate qualification or experience in a business analyst or comparable role

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Project, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint, Word and Visio

  • Knowledge of technology fundamentals and concepts (Microsoft technologies preferred)

  • Knowledge of  IT disciplines and interdependencies 

  • Knowledge of budget processes 

  • Knowledge & experience of project cost tracking

  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test

  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline 

  • Ten (10) years’ experience in managing  projects

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification by Project Management Institute (PMI) preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and managerial skills including the ability to motivate others

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels and in diverse environments 

  • Ability to manage risk 

  • Ability to tailor communication style to different audiences, and to exercise good judgment in frequency and nature of communications to different parties (senior management, stakeholders, team members, etc.).

  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment 

  • Ability to rapidly resolve issues and recognize when escalation is necessary 

  • Strong vendor management, negotiation and resolution skills 

  • Excellent problem solving and structured thinking skills 

  • Flexibility, agility and change management skills 

  • Excellent customer service and an understanding of how IT is ultimately delivered to the Customer

Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice

  • Well-groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance

  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR)) Equipment:

Physical Effort:  

  • Light physical effort required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.  (Light)
