Job Summary

The Advanced Flight Deck Systems (AFDS) team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Platform Systems Engineer who can leverage existing and develop new technologies to provide innovative systems solutions for the USAF KC-135 platform. Responsibilities include platform system engineering through all phases of system product development including: program pursuit and capture, requirements capture and analysis, system architecture design, requirements allocation and traceability, system/subsystem integration, system verification, system validation and life-cycle product support. The ability to estimate, track, and report project costs and schedules while managing scope & risk is essential. The candidate must be able to interface with business development, program management, software engineers, product-line systems engineers, hardware engineers and customers. The candidate must be highly motivated and a self-starter.

Job Responsibilities

* Significant domain knowledge and knowledge of associated products, systems and applicable regulatory requirements in assigned area (e.g. Flight Controls). May be considered a specialist in a specific systems area or a generalist in multiple systems areas and recognized in their organization. Provide inputs to technical & product roadmaps.
* Capture, analyze, decompose, model and create requirements for systems, product or sub-systems of moderate to high complexity. Conduct verification/validation testing for products and subsystems of moderate to high complexity and contribute to system integration.
* Develop functional, interface and performance specifications for hardware and software implementation. Contribute to architecturally significant requirements and technical risk area identification.
* May lead cross-functional or domain teams as a Project Engineer, or lead a systems engineering team on a small program, or lead systems verification testing for products and sub-systems of moderate complexity.
* Estimate, track, own and report project technical, cost and schedule aspects for assigned scope of work.
* Decisions may have moderate impact on cost, schedule, and performance.
* Understand and utilize internal processes, methods and tools for systems development and documentation efforts. Review defect trends and recommend new approaches, tools and techniques that drive continuous improvement in technical development processes
* Serve in a design quality role (systems) helping to assure that development teams are following appropriate processes.
* Act as a mentor to more-junior engineers in additional areas including project planning and execution.
* Individual job duties may vary.

A successful candidate should have experience working in highly collaborative environments, demonstrate the ability to take ownership of tasks and lead efforts spanning multiple stakeholders, possess exceptional written and oral communications skills, the ability to break down and execute on complex tasks with minimal instructions, and have a keen aptitude for technical work that spans multiple levels of detail.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates must have:

US citizenship and able to obtain a US DoD Security Clearance

*

Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline

*

Able to travel up to 10%

*

Adaptable to changes in assignments and responsibilities

*

Ability to collaborate well across multiple disciplines

*

Highly self-motivated and contributing to a positive work environment

*

Strong working knowledge of system engineering process

*

Working knowledge of avionics and navigation principles

Preferred Experience/Skills:

*

Experience with the USAF KC-135 platform is highly desired

*

A robust understanding of systems, software and hardware development processes in an avionics application

*

Leading and coordinating program level cost estimates during the bid cycle

*

Coordinating technical and project execution aspects of bid and proposal activities

*

Managing program technical execution and maintaining performance metrics for management review and continuous improvement

*

Prior aircraft/platform systems experience with human/machine interface (HUDs, displays and controls), weapons systems, sensor systems, navigation, safety, intelligence and surveillance, voice and data communications, information assurance, flight controls, or digital/analog system interfaces

*

Knowledge and experience working with Avionics regulatory and certification requirements: TSO, DO-160, DO254, DO-178B/C, and ARP4754.

*

Familiarity with tools such as JIRA, ALM, DOORs, Subversion, PREP and Agile development methods
