Position Description

SUMMARY:
Provide sales support and technical expertise at the Subject Matter Expert level, in the use of gamma and alpha spectroscopy equipment for counting laboratories and institutional applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serve as a commercial laboratory lead expert on software support, including remote and on-site assistance.
• Provide expert guidance on the use and implementation of ORTEC gamma and alpha spectroscopy systems, in person at customer sites and by electronic communication
• Interact with customers on issues such as a new application of standard ORTEC hardware and software, and specifications/definitions of turn-key systems,
• Assist in training programs on the use and application of spectroscopy equipment and software,
• Support ORTEC initiatives in NPP counting rooms, environmental monitoring and NDA
• Author and review application notes,
• Interact with the worldwide nuclear sales force, providing technical support to sales efforts and initiatives.

Position Requirements

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor of Science Degree, Masters Degree preferred, Minimum 5 years experience in a production counting laboratory, preferably in a nuclear power plant, or a combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management and/or public groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of radiation, vibration, to work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:
The successful job applicant will have:

• Extensive knowledge of governing regulations for nuclear power plants and government-operated nuclear facilities required
• Demonstrated experience with radiochemistry laboratory practices
• Demonstrated ability to achieve security clearance to US NPPs
• Demonstrated experience with radiation measurement and detection equipment and techniques including, but not limited to, gamma and alpha spectroscopy, gas proportional and liquid scintillation counters, computer-based data acquisition systems, analog and digital electronics, high purity germanium detectors, silicon charged particle detectors, etc.
• Demonstrated experience in the use and development of VBA code
• Demonstrated experience interpreting analytical results from radiation measurement and detection equipment
• Demonstrated experience in presentation, written, and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work in cross functional teams and possess team leadership skills
• Involvement in technical and standards committees desired
• Field experience in nuclear power, commercial or government counting laboratory environment required

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent travel is required, primarily in the US but the successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to obtain a passport as International travel may also be required.
