Software Engineer - Crew Portfolio

Delta Air Lines has an opportunity for a Senior Developer to work on its Crew Portfolio, a pivotal function in Delta's operations to keep aircraft flying safely. This is an exciting role offering the chance to drive innovation, incorporating advanced analytics and new technology into the Crew systems and processes.


- Primary responsibilities include architecting, designing, developing and implementing Java/J2EE applications.
- Design, and outline solution architectures providing conceptual, logical and application level design.
- Provide technical expertise in support of application development and govern the implementations of the applications.
- Strong understanding of the technical Crew portfolio ecosystem leveraged by the solution and complementary applications.
- Design and develop solutions with multiple technologies, complex environments and determine which is appropriate for the situation
- Capable of implementing industry best-practice processes related to application development concepts, designs, and architectures
- Apply company policies and procedures to resolve complex issues
- Prepare and review estimates for tasks and/or projects
- Participating in the design process of new features and enhancements to the software platform.
- Participate in the development effort resulting in well structured, easily maintained program code.
- Meet all established policies and procedures within technology and corporate environment for the assigned projects
- Prepare and review estimates for tasks and/or projects
- Prepare and execute unit, system and integration test scripts within multiple
- Ability to perform across all phases of system development for multiple complex projects; including coding, technical design, and end-to-end testing
- Ability to clearly document own work products and review and contribute to the documentation across multiple projects


- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training in the TPF application development field. Previous airline experience ideal.
- 5+ years of experience in enterprise level J2EE platforms using J2EE design patterns.
- Highly motivated, inquisitive, collaborative, creative, proactive, and good communicator are non-technical skills that will fit best in our environment
- Must have the ability to transform business and functional requirements into technical solutions.
- Experience in front end web technologies and frameworks: HTML, CSS, Javascript, Angular JS, AJAX, Struts, Spring and Hibernate
- Experience with application and web servers such as IBM WebSphere 
- Experience in developing Transformation logic using XQuery or XSLT
- Development experience in web service with SOAP or REST transports
- Good understanding and experience using web services using JAX-RPC and JAXWS
- Experience developing applications with Oracle and other relational Databases
- Experience with service-oriented architectures. Strong OO design skills.
- Expert understanding of SDLC from design through production implementation (Agile and Waterfall)
- Understanding of build cycles, enhancement and production operations of eCommerce sites
- You will be comfortable interfacing and engaging with customers, defining their requirements and effectively translating their needs to business and technical documents, maximizing customer satisfaction 
- Excellent analytical, technology, communication, decision making and problem solving skills
- Experience leading/mentoring junior developers
- Organized with an ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and utilize time effectively
- Must have the ability to transform business and functional requirements into technical solutions


- Strong technical knowledge of a variety of digital technologies including Mobile, Web, Apps, APIs, Messaging, Databases, Big Data, Networks and their Interactions 
- Exposure to JQuery and a basic knowledge of UNIX/Linux.
- Additional coding language experience a plus. Any previous airline experience a plus.
