Job Description

The Strategic Leisure Sales Specialist-Cruise & Marine has a deep understanding of the cruise industry and coordinates with internal stakeholders on annual programs and tactical pricing actions. Success in this role is measured in two areas: 1) achievement of revenue share performance goals and 2) improving the quality of revenue. The successful candidate is or becomes subject matter expert for the Air/Sea leisure business and is the principal sales owner of the cruise lines from a US point of sale perspective in working with our joint business partners.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the progressive development of the Air/Sea Cruise and Marine program business as part of the Strategic Leisure Sales team.
  • Requires direct management of a sales territory comprised of existing top cruise lines & marine accounts with important potential to AA and our joint business partners.
  • Manages the Air/Sea program contract implementation for this territory and is responsible for executing appropriate sales strategies to gain AA’s fair share of cruise and marine traffic, improve the quality of revenue, maintain appropriate market share and monitor account performance.
  • Places significant focus on premium leisure opportunities.
  • Responsible for analyzing specific Leisure performance reports and using a broad range of programs within the Strategic Leisure purview to affect business performance.
  • Identifies customer needs and meets those needs with either an existing or customer specific program.
  • Stays current on competitive offerings and communicates upward for potential sales initiative actions.
  • Prepares correspondence, proposals and presentations to support sales activities.
  • Attends industry functions to establish and maintain industry contacts.
  • Some travel required.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
  • 3-5 yrs successful B2B sales experience and/or experience in the cruise/marine industry
  • Excellent sales acumen and account planning that balances potential and achievement
  • Possess skills to articulate the AA JB business proposition to C-level cruise executives and to work collaboratively with interdepartmental stakeholders such as Agency Programs and Revenue Management on base program and tactical requirements
  • Ability to understand and make advances toward a more seamless, globalized product
  • Strong value based selling skills and the ability to translate benefits to the customer
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills that lead to targeted performance
  • Must be able to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language
  • Ability to travel
