The selected applicant will work within the areas of engineering relating to aircraft structures.  The selected applicant will develop and/or participate in analyses and recommendations using various analytical processes and tools related to stress analysis of aircraft structures including application of methods examining loading, reactions, stresses, shears, bending moments, deflections, equilibrium of force, and elasticity.  The selected applicant will assess, analyze, and calculate values related to fracture toughness, crack propagation, and fatigue properties of damaged structures to support recommendations for in-service repair and assessment of remaining service life.

Education/Experience:  A Bachelors degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university with a minimum of six (6) years of experience is required.  Technical electives preferred in any of the following areas:  Finite Element Analysis (FEA), aerospace structures, metallurgy or composites.   Experience with military aviation, maintenance, and military logistics strongly preferred.    

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  The selected applicant should understand, at the working level, the application of free body diagrams, material properties, stress-strain relationships, safety factors, and design margins.   The selected applicant should be able to understand the relationships between joints, fasteners, ribs, stringers, spars, stiffeners, longerons, gussets, skin-stringer panels, integrally stiffened panels and other elements of aircraft structure as they interact under applied load.  Knowledge and skills relating to engineering discipline in areas of mechanics, material science, fluid mechanics, vibration, and mechanical design are highly desired.  Knowledge, skills, and abilities in computer aided design, drafting, mechanical drawing, and manufacturing processes are desired.    Knowledge of military maintenance operations and logistics support functions is preferred.   Candidate should be knowledgeable in core subjects of chemistry, physics, mathematics, probability and statistics.  Candidate must be articulate and able to communicate ideas and concepts in presentations to decision makers and stakeholders in formal and informal settings.  Must be able to author, review, and approve technical reports and supporting documentation.   Must be able to work at an accelerated pace to meet emergent customer requirements when needed.   Must be able to work in cross functional teams and communicate effectively in a team environment.

Applicant selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
