KBRwyle is seeking a Technical Writer to perform technical writing functions for Unmanned Air System (UAS) projects to include writing military maintenance software and hardware technical manuals using ASD S1000D Issue 3.01 and 4.1 XML specification in order to create Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs). The technical writer will create new, update existing, and convert legacy technical manuals and training support materials using the ASD S1000D Issue 3.01 and 4.1 XML specification. This position will be located in NAS Patuxent River and will work with an integrated team of government and civilian maintenance technicians who support an UAS. Using engineering documentation, operator and maintenance manuals, logistics data,and receiving direction from an integrated maintenance team, the technical writer will create, write, revise, standardize, edit, review, finalize, and publish IETMs. The technical writer will prepare draft material for internal review by subject matter experts and final review by customer. The technical writer will utilize Adobe Acrobat, Oxygen XML, NAVAIR Standard IETM Viewer (NSIV) and Microsoft Office products. The technical writer must be flexible and have the ability to adapt to new information and programs.
Education/Experience: A Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of four (4) years of experience or High School diploma/GED and a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience is required. Experience with XML authoring is required. Experience authoring NAVAIR maintenance manuals related to technical manual development, delivery, and integrated logistics support (ARs, MIL STDs and MIL-PRFs, IETMs, DIDs, etc.) a certification in assigned area preferred. US Navy aviation organizational maintenance background; electronic ratings are preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be able to prepare draft Data Modules and other material for internal review by subject matter experts and final review by customer. Must be able to work independently, be team oriented, and possess strong customer facing skills. Must be flexible and have the ability to adapt to new information and programs. Ability to write in a clear and concise manner, possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have knowledge of US Navy organizational and/or intermediate maintenance concepts. Must have the ability to research, review, and understand technical information and engineering drawings, and be able to develop procedural information from technical documentation. Must have extensive knowledge of IETM development procedures using S1000D and DoD MIL-STDs used to develop product deliverables for NAVAIR Maintenance Manual IETMs.
Familiarity with NAVAIR Standard IETM Viewer (NSIV) and Oxygen XML software application is a plus. The preferred applicant will be familiar with Eagle Publishing System.
Equipment and Machines: Ability to operate office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other equipment including desk supplies and other work related tools as required.
Attendance: Anticipated at Monday-Friday. Regular attendance of scheduled hours is critical. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines. The employee must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements. Periodically, Combined Validation Verification (CVV) events require surge working events that occur based upon aircraft availability, including nights and weekends. Travel (including airline travel) is required, normally in conjunction with CVV events. Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers. The individual must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills, both verbal and written. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others. Candidate must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner. Independent personal transportation to work site is required. Applicant will be working in both office and aircraft hangar settings.
The position will allow various combinations of education and experience using a 1 year of education for 1 year of experience substitution.
