Applies advanced knowledge of principles, theories, concepts and industry practices and standards in the area of developing, authoring and editing material for technical publications and/or documents in print or electronic media for company products and/or various processes.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
Develops solutions to problems of moderate scope and complexity requiring judgment and ingenuity working within established standards and procedures relative to developing, authoring and editing technical publications and/or documents for company products and/or quality processes.
Technical writing of technical publications/manuals:
Develops, writes and edits procedures and instructions in print or electronic media; performs research to ensure publications and manuals meet or exceed customer and company specifications for content and accuracy.
Works with production and engineering staff to define and describe material, procedure, process, instruction, etc.; observes production, developmental and experimental activities to determine operating procedures and detail; validates written procedures with the assistance of production team members, mock-ups and CAD models.
Studies CAD models, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mock-ups, and product samples to delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.
Reviews manufacturer and trade catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment; reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with production, product technologies and production methods.
Organizes material and completes assignments according to standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology; selects photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, charts and/or other material for illustration.
Reviews existing published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, and content; maintains associated records and files.
Technical writing of quality documents/manuals:
Develops, writes and edits procedures, work instructions and forms in print or electronic media; performs research to ensure documents meet or exceed company specifications for content and accuracy.
Works with quality and production staff to define and describe product non-conformances which includes interrogation of engineering digital data and translation of engineering requirements; validates written procedures with the assistance of quality and production team members.
Authors and edits nonconformance documents for presentation to the Material Review Board, which includes selecting photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, charts or other material for illustration to fully document conditions.
Reviews existing documents and recommends revisions or changes in scope and content; maintains associated records and files.
Formal Education, Training, Professional Certification and Work Experience:
Experience may be substituted for the formal education and training requirements in this section at the discretion of management. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university and three (3) to six (6) or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Technical Publications/Manuals: Experience with Air Transport Association (ATA) iSpec 2200 and with authoring of service bulletins and manual types AMM, AIPC, SRM and CMM is required. Preferred experience in authoring of ATA chapters 5,24,25,26,29,30,36,51,54,71,73,78,79 and 80 as well as with industry standard ASD S1000D and ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English. Work with aircraft systems, structures, metal/composite repair development in an A & P Mechanic or Engineer role is a plus.
Technical Quality Documents/Manuals: Experience working with Quality Management Systems including processes. Preferred experience with metal/composite repair development.
